Hi, I’m Zophia!
I believe we are deeply shaped by the relationships, communities, and systems we are a part of. Though we crave connection, past hurts teach us how to protect ourselves. These survival strategies often keep us at a distance - from ourselves and from others.
Because of this, turning toward support and opening yourself up to ask for help can feel vulnerable and overwhelming. That vulnerability is sacred.
As a clinician, I strive to be a co-traveler on your journey, collaborating alongside you and creating a space in which you can show up safely and authentically. Having worked with adolescents, adults, and couples across various clinical settings, I recognize that healing looks different for everyone.
My passions include exploring topics of sex and sexuality, identity, grief, and multiculturalism. I am sex-positive, kink-friendly, and ENM/poly informed and affirming.
Originally from Atlanta, Georgia, I moved to Charlotte to pursue my PhD in Counselor Education and Supervision at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. I earned my Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Georgia State University. I am a Nationally Certified Counselor, trained in Narrative Exposure Therapy, and am currently working toward full licensure in the state of North Carolina.
Outside of the therapy room, I enjoy spending time with my partner and our two pups, Bell and Olive. I love reading, crafting, traveling, photography, and music - activities that help me stay grounded and connected in my own life. If you think we would be a good fit, please reach out to me for a consult at aserrate@charlotte.edu.
