Hi, I’m Zophia Serrate.

I believe we are deeply shaped by the relationships, communities, and systems we are a part of. As a result, my approach to therapy is grounded in Relational-Cultural Theory (RCT), with an emphasis on the healing power of presence and growth-fostering relationships.

I integrate narrative and systems perspectives alongside expressive arts approaches, tailoring therapy to honor each client’s unique story and lived experience. Overall, I prioritize compassionate, trauma-informed, and collaborative care.

Originally from Georgia, I recently moved to North Carolina to pursue my PhD in Counselor Education and Supervision at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. I earned my Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Georgia State University. I am a Nationally Certified Counselor, trained in Narrative Exposure Therapy, and am currently working toward full licensure in the state of North Carolina.

My clinical interests include trauma, grief, attachment and relationships, sexuality, substance use, and life transitions. I have experience working in inpatient mental health settings and in schools, providing care to adolescents, adults, and families.

Outside of the therapy room, I enjoy spending time with my partner and our two pups, Bell and Olive. I love reading, crafting, traveling, being outdoors, and listening to music - activities that help me stay grounded and connected in my own life. If you think we would be a good fit, please reach out to me at aserrate@charlotte.edu
