Therapeutic Services

Individual Services

I am passionate about working with individuals who are struggling with boundaries, limits, trauma and finding themselves. I am trained in Eye Movement Desensitation Reprocessing (EMDR). EMDR is used for trauma, PTSD, as well as anxiety and depression. I offer EMDR intensives for those who are limited on time. Ask me about it! I am trained in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT). DBT can be beneficial for those who are struggling with anxiety, depression, and other mood disorder/ personality disorders. I offer DBT individual skills as well as incorporate DBT into majority of my work. I am also trained in Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) which is used for clients who have PTSD and/or have suffered a traumatic event/events. CPT helps to work through stuck points, world views and process the trauma to overcome it and get to a healthier place. I have a passion for working with women. I enjoy examining generational patterns and working with clients to change them through self acceptance, healing and boundaries.

Family Therapy

When it comes to family counseling,  I examine the whole family, as well as the various units that make up a family. This is a flexible process that can incorporate kids, parents, and extended family. I’ve worked with families dealing with trauma, addiction, infidelity, grief and loss, bereavement, custody, abuse, and families dealing with DSS. I enjoy working with addiction and have supported individuals addicted to various substances.  I believe strongly in supporting not only the addicted and mentally hurt individual, but the family unit as well. Being foundationally trained in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, I enjoy  working with families of patients who are in DBT treatment.  I provide psychoeducation, skill building and teach people how to set healthy boundaries.

Couples Services

I enjoy working with couples to help them improve their communication and strengthen their relationships through Dialectical Behavioral concepts. Here are some issues that couples bring to therapy: infidelity, finding roles within the relationship, parenting, separation, co-parenting after separation, intimacy, and conflict management. I believe in the power of vulnerability and shedding all layers of protection in order to create a healthy and intimate relationship. I work with all couples and believe Love is Love!

Creative Art Therapy

Art therapy is a type of psychodynamic therapy that blends art making with traditional talk therapy. Art therapists are specifically trained to choose and utilize a variety of art materials, directives and methods that are tailored to help facilitate a client’s specific goals. A picture is worth a thousand words, and making art can elicit a thousand emotions.  Sometimes when our words fail, an image can help us evoke and process underlying emotions and difficulties. It can feel threatening to talk about past trauma and difficulties, but the creative process can create a backdoor to access and overcome these challenges. Art therapy can also be used for assessment purposes, to measure markers of our mental health and even cognitive development. Art therapists are uniquely trained to use art making, play, and talk therapy to help our clients. Service provided by Sarah Kwawu.
